Replace the iphone screen

This is the best video I could find describing how to Replace the iphone screen

You need a flash player to see this movie.

Finally my iphone screen arrived this week and I could not wait to put it in an fix my iphone which had a broken touch panel, the lcd worked fine.

I already opened up my iphone so I thought it would be a quick job of replacing the screen. Wrong, it took me about 2 hours because the screen was glued to the plastic internal housing. I was scared to break any of the part that were not going to be replaced.

Here I have the back cover removed and the camera.

Removed the battery and mainboard from the iphone. The mainboard has 4 connections so be sure to remove these before you take it out.

This is never going to be an functioning Iphone again!

After a 2 hour battle I removed the iphone screen from the plastic housing.

Putting everything together took about 5% of the time it took to take it apart, no dramas there.
I hoped that it would work again cause otherwise I probably thrown the thing against the wall.
But, I turned it on and the touch screen worked great.
It took a reboot to get the top of the screen working too, don’t know why.
So a total of $150 Australian dollar was spend and close to day of my time but it was worth it. What a wicked little device.

    Hey Tom,

I don’t offer replacing the iphone screen as a service but I can always help you out if you have any questions.
It is quite a long process but at the end it is all worth it.
Try to find a replacement screen somewhere on ebay or in the U.S.
    Good luck with the replacement.

    Cheers

Hi. Nice job! I have an iphone with a broken glass. There are replacements on ebay for 50 USD. Do you think this is the same item that you used to replace yours?
    Thanks,
    Sid

No, I don’t think so because mine was the glass complete with the LCD and touch panel. The glass replacements are just the top layer of the screen i guess.

    Hi!

    Great job!

From where did you get the Complete Screen? And how much was it (A$150?)

And please give some more details on how you “Removed the battery and mainboard from the iphone”. It is glued on and I don’t know where to safely lever it, and how much force to use – or would some solvent help?

Also some details please on removing the screen from the “plastic housing”.

    Thanks!

    John

    Hello, John
I found it on a US website.
the iphone screen (google link) above links to a site that has it in stock for $169.99. The price has gone up a little but it is still affordable.
You can use my previous post on how to open the iphone. Good luck

I replaced my screen and it came back on and the touch screen works but I don’t have any service. I think I connected the antenna correctly but don’t know what else could be wrong. Any ideas?

    @ Kristin
The only thing that I can think of is to open your iphone up again and look for any loose connections. You can also try to take out the antenna and have a good look at it and look for any imperfections.

It looks like you have a broken touch screen. So yes you can replace it yourself and get the iphone to work again.

    Hope this helps.
